What's Up with the Nintendo Wii?
Is It Another Crazy Christmas For Nintendo Wii?
Last holiday season people stood in line for hours (and sometimes overnight) to get their hands on a Nintendo Wii in time for Christmas. The supply was ridiculously low and demand was ridiculously high. Unfortunately, there's still a supply issue with these most-wanted game systems. Will it be resolved in time for Christmas? Here's what I found out.
It's Been a Year, People!
You'd think Nintendo would have gotten their shtick together when there were shortages of the Nintendo Wii last year. Unfortunately, while supply has increased somewhat, many are still having a hard time getting their hands on the system. That could make the Nintendo Wii the Christmas madness toy two years running.
Why, though, hasn't Nintendo finally created enough of the systems to keep up with demand? The answers might surprise you.
A Conspiracy?
Many of those who are dying to get their hands on a Nintendo Wii insist that the shortage is a conspiracy masterminded by Nintendo. After all, people want what they can't have and Nintendo is well aware of this.
By limiting supply, they increase demand. Keep the stream of Wiis slow and steady and they might sell more over a long period of time than they would have had they released all of the inventory at once. But is it true?
Not really. According to Nintendo, they're pumping units out as fast as they can make them. When you have the capacity to make 100,000 systems a month but there's demand for 300,000 a month, it's a no-brainer that there's going to be a shortage.
My advice? Get on a waiting list or stand in line at Best Buy on Sundays or on Black Friday. Now I know Henry said not to get in on the hot toy madness this year, but everyone wants a Nintendo Wii and the only way to get one may indeed be the crazy-hour lines.
