Despite the eagerness stores have to offer Christmas merchandise to customers, I know many consumers who don’t enjoy this practice. So what’s the deal with Christmas merchandise being put out before Halloween arrives? It’s all about profits, my friend.

Many consumers complain about how early the stores decorate for Christmas. The new school year begins in September, and several weeks later stores have Christmas music playing and holiday merchandise displayed. So have the stores lost their minds or the ability to tell what month it is? No. There’s a rhyme to the reason when it comes to this Christmas merchandise display schedule.
Where There’s Demand, There Will Be a Supply
Obviously, there is a demand for Christmas merchandise well before December rolls around, or stores wouldn’t begin displaying holiday merchandise so early. By putting out their Christmas merchandise displays in October, stores are able to offer Christmas merchandise to consumers who want a head start on their Christmas shopping and they’re able to increase profits by offering prolonged periods of Christmas merchandise sales.
Why Shop Early for Christmas Merchandise?
Believe it or not, there are consumers who enjoy shopping early for Christmas merchandise. Not all of us are procrastinators, after all. Think about it -- the early bird gets to avoid the Christmas crowds and gets the first pick of the Christmas merchandise available. After all, the store can put the Christmas merchandise out there -- that doesn’t mean you have to buy it till you’re good and ready to do so.
