What Hanukkah and Christmas Have in Common

A Few Things The Ignorant Need To Learn About Christmas

It's time to have a little talk about what Hanukkah and Christmas have in common. At first, I didn't want to use this site to rant about what happened this week, but this is "Christmas Rants" after all so what better place to do it? So here we go -- a lesson on why real Christians aren't anti-semitic.

Let's Set the Story Straight

This week at my child's school a 7-year-old boy was called a "stinky Jew" by a third grader. Now, I understand that children tend to talk without fully understanding what they're saying but the kid heard it somewhere and kids usually mimic their parents. Good to see that ignorance is alive and well in America today.

So let's get one thing straight. For those of you who are misinformed, you need to realize that without the Jewish people, there would be no Christmas. Jesus was, in fact, a Jew.

And if you blame the Jewish people for "killing" Christ, remember that no matter who's to blame, if he didn't die on that cross, your sins wouldn't be forgiven, and no matter how perfect you think you may be, you're not perfect enough to get into heaven without that piece of history helping you out.

Know Your Own Religion

Now most Christians understand everything I just said. Most of us know that we have nothing to gain by being anti-semitic. After all, if we decide to look down on His chosen people then how do you think He's going to look at us?

So if you don't see the horror in someone, whether it be child or adult, being called a "stinky Jew" don't you dare call yourself a follower of Christ. Christ was Jewish. No one can dispute that fact. Without the Jewish people, there would be no Christmas. There'd be no Christianity at all. Let's not forget that this holiday season.
