Too Many Invitations to Christmas Dinner?

How to deal with Christmas Dinner overload.

Can you believe there are only nine more days till Christmas? That’s little more than a week! With Christmas sneaking up on us rather quickly, it got me to thinking about those people who struggle with having too many invitations to Christmas dinner. If you’re one of those people, you’re going to want to take my advice.

First Things First, You Come First

First things first, you have to keep your sanity this Christmas. If you have ten invitations to Christmas dinner, you know very well you can’t accept them all so don’t even try. Sit down and decide just how many people you can accommodate this season and start making a list.

Politely Decline

If John from the office has invited your family over for Christmas dinner but you’re already committed to stopping by your in-laws’, your sister’s and your best friend’s, you’re going to have to decline John’s invitation. Now you don’t have to go into an elaborate explanation as to why you cannot attend. Just politely inform him that while you’d love to attend, you already have other obligations that will prevent you from doing so.

Be Prepared for Hurt Feelings

If you’ve always attended mom and dad’s house for Christmas but this year you’re going to the in-laws’, be prepared for some hurt feelings. Just remember, it’s only fair that you divide your time equally and if you can’t divide your time in one night, you’ll have to do it over the years. That means missing dinner with your family every other year and they will learn to accept that.
