The Hottest Toy of the Year: Don’t Be a Lemming

How to find the hottest toy of the year without jumping off a cliff.

Hi Everyone, Noel here again. I know, I just can’t seem to shut up when it comes to Christmas and I absolutely have to talk to everyone about getting the hottest toy of the year. Every year has one, whether it be a Furby or a Cabbage Patch Kid or a Tickle Me Elmo.

This year’s going to be no different and while I can’t yet predict which one it’s going to be, I can help you all by giving you tips on how to find the “it” toy of the year as soon as we know what it’s going to be.

Too many years I have joined the other parents in a mad rush to grab the hottest toy of the year after waiting for hours in line for a store to open. It reminds me of lemmings running to jump of a cliff to their utter demise. At least I’ve been fortunate to never be injured on one of these adventures like we so often see on the news. Here’s my tips on how you can avoid the whole lemming scenario.

Tip 1 -- Make Friends

The best way to find out when the hottest toy of the year is going to be in stock is to become friendly with the sales associates. This doesn’t mean you have to be their best friend, it just means you need to catch a fly with honey. If you’re lucky, they’ll tell you when a shipment is expected in.

Tip 2 -- Get There Early

When you do know when a store is getting a shipment in, it’s probably that a few other people do too. Get there a little early so you can be sure that you get the hottest toy of the year for yourself.

Tip 3 -- Shop Online

If the brick and mortar store doesn’t have it, perhaps the online store does. Check websites daily as their stock rotates and though you might not see it one day, you may see the hottest toy of the year in stock the next.
