The Christmas Cards Debate

Hi everyone, it’s Faith. I just have to get this off my chest. It’s only October and I swear I’m going nuts trying to figure out who should get Christmas cards, who shouldn’t get Christmas cards, what kind of Christmas cards to send out, the list goes on.

The Early Bird Catches the Worm

If you’re not yet worried about who should get Christmas cards and who shouldn’t you should start. Even though it’s only October, Christmas is going to creep up on you faster than you think and you don’t want to be unprepared at the last minute.

Do what I’m doing and figure out what type of Christmas cards you’re going to be sending out this year and then make your list of who’s getting those Christmas cards. You’re going to want to make sure you have addresses for everyone on your Christmas cards list, so preparing early is important.

Christmas cards are a long-standing tradition and if you don’t send them out to certain people, it will be viewed as a rude, so make sure you get the Christmas cards to who they need to go to. Family members, close friends, and anyone who has sent you a card in the years prior are must-haves on your Christmas cards list.

Great tips...OR, you can do what I did about 25 years ago: inform those nearest and dearest to me to spread the word that I would no longer be sending cards, but donating the money I would have normally spent to charity. My card-giving had gotten so out of hand that I just took the money I had set aside for stamps and cards and walked to my church and handed it to my pastor, asking that he give it to someone who really needed it. He did and thus began a tradition that I have not regretted for an instant...and my friends and relatives were fine with it!

Yeah, that's O.K. if you're not a diabetic who has taken charge by diet and exercise. If you don't get too close to the edge of the pit, you won't fall in. There are lots of other ways to enjoy the holidays (my favorite time of year) without gorging yourself. Be creative! Stay away from chocolate, snacking and other bad eating habits. Personally, I intend to be at my grandchildren's graduation, and maybe their wedding and baptisms of my great-grandchildren. Have a fabulous holiday time!
