Should You Buy Gift Cards For Your Family?
Why gift cards are the perfect fit, even for sibling rivalry
Gift cards are the fallback plan for many Christmas shoppers. If they can't find anything specific for a person on the list, then gift cards are the natural way to give without a lot of work.
But they're appreciated more than you know
What you may not realize is that even if gift cards aren't the most exciting thing to open, they can be happy shopping days down the line.
Gift cards take the place of unwanted presents and are fast becoming the way to celebrate everyone from your best friend to your newspaper delivery person. And with many stores performing multiple functions (grocery, clothing, etc.), the recipient can truly buy what they want or what they need.
Because my stepchildren live on their own in college, they seem to need money at times that I'm not around. To fix this problem, my wife and I give them grocery store gift cards for them to use so that they don't go hungry at two in the morning.
Finding the one that fits
Many times in our family, we'll give out gift cards and our kids will trade them with the others.
There are gift cards for music, clothing, downloading songs, cellular phone minutes, restaurants, baby clothes, bookstores, super food centers, and more. And for the picky gift recipient, you can find one things that they love and buy the gift cards there.
No more sweating the co-worker that loves classical music.
All in the family
As I've said before, gift cards are perfect for college students, but they can also fit your wife as well.
Last year, I knew that my wife wanted to have some things done to her hair and to her face, but I couldn't for the life of me remember the specifics. So, I picked up gift cards at a few local salons so she could decide when and where to go.
At the salons that she didn't like, she could buy hair products and supplies.
Gift cards can fit the parents with a free dinner and movie card. So, it's not that gift cards are for those that don't want to think when they give gifts, but they are there for those that just can't choose.
