Organization During The Christmas Season
How to Effectively Organize All Those Christmas Decorations
Organizing all those Christmas decorations can be a time-consuming task. I know Christmas is still over two months away, but once you pull out all those Christmas decorations it might be hard to put them away properly after the holidays. Why? Because, if you’re like me, they get tucked away in no particular order. Don’t believe me? See just how hard last year’s “organizational efforts” make this year’s tree trimming. If you want to enjoy next year’s holiday season and not fear the tree trimming with dreaded anticipation, then it’s time to organize those Christmas decorations once and for all.
Some Things Are Easier Than Others
Certain Christmas items are easy to organize. If you use an artificial Christmas tree in your home, then you definitely want to store that in its own box from year to year. There really is no better way to store an artificial tree because the box it came in fits it precisely. The ornaments, on the other hand, may be harder to keep tidy.
Nesting Isn’t Just For Birds
One helpful tip for organizing Christmas decorations is to conserve space by nesting items. If you have large decorative tins or boxes, make sure to store other smaller items inside during the off-season. Follow the same bit of advice that you usually do when packing for a trip. Organization experts usually recommend that you roll your clothing when packing for a trip. You can do the same with your Christmas decorations. Roll your stockings up and tuck them inside a Christmas tin. You can also roll up your Christmas tree skirt.
Watch the Lights
Make sure you store your Christmas lights properly or you will end up with a tangled mess of cords next year. There are plastic devices on the market that are designed specifically for storing Christmas lights. You simply wind your lights around them and tuck them away until next year.
Handle With Care
Remember to take special care when organizing delicate ornaments such as Christmas balls. You certainly don’t want to end up with broken decorations next year. Wait until the after-Christmas sales and stock up on tissue paper which you can use to wrap delicate items in. Also make sure you label your storage boxes. That will help you avoid placing heavier items on top of boxes that contain breakable items.
With a little effort and organization this Christmas season, you can get a handle on all of your decorations.
