How Soon is Too Soon When It Comes to Christmas Decorations?

Let’s Get Out Those Christmas Decorations!

With Christmas approaching, you might want to give some thought to getting out your holiday decorations. Think it’s too soon to get your Christmas decorations out? Better think twice! Christmas is just a few short months away and if you want to decorate in style this holiday season, it’s time to start planning.

The Stores Are Doing It, So Should You

Never before has Christmas decorating occupied such a long season. It might be the result of merchants displaying Christmas merchandise in September and October. This causes shoppers to buy holiday items earlier, including Christmas decorations.

Times certainly are changing, and the centuries-old tradition of decorating in the days immediately before Christmas is just no longer a custom that anyone follows. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t ideal times to decorate. In fact, the ideal time to start planning your Christmas decorations is right now.

Planning Your Christmas Decorations

So now you know you need to start planning your Christmas decorations. Exactly what kind of schedule should you follow? Well right now we’re in the end of October. That means you should be mentally planning what decorations you’re going to be putting out this year and start writing down the decorations you’re going to want to take out of storage.

Once the beginning of November hits, it’s time to start pulling those Christmas decorations out of the basement, crawl space and attic and put them somewhere that’s easily accessible (like the garage, a closet, etc.) Then, at the end of November (right after Thanksgiving) it’s time to put all of those Christmas decorations up.

Why Start Planning Now?

Okay, imagine this. It’s the day after Thanksgiving and if you’re like any serious Christmas shopper, you’re going to be out shopping. But wait! Suddenly you remember that THIS is the day everyone is putting up their Christmas decorations and you don’t want to be the last one on the block to put your lights up. Suddenly you’re running all over the house trying desperately to remember where you put the decorations you put away last year. You don’t remember what you need and you’re so frazzled you can barely focus on what will look good where.

Wouldn’t it just be easier to start planning your Christmas decorations in October?
You can, though, start preparing for Christmas right now.

This week, take an inventory of the Christmas decorations you plan to use. Also, see if you need to replace any bulbs on your Christmas lights. The time and effort that you put into planning now will make your Christmas decorating go much smoother.
