Christmas Gift Wrapping -- Do I Really Have To?

Is Christmas Gift Wrapping Really a Necessity

Christmas gift wrapping and the holiday season are two items that often go hand in hand. But you may be asking yourself, "Do I really need to wrap all the gifts I give?" If you're wondering if there are some gifts you can skip wrapping, here are some rules of thumb to follow...

Wrap It Up

For many of us, the idea of Christmas gift wrapping is a treacherous nightmare. We think about all of the Christmas seasons that we have been through and all of the brightly colored and fancy wrapping papers that have adorned the many presents that we have given and received. We also think about the paper cuts, the scissor stabs and the countless yards of ruined ribbon we thought we could manage, but ultimately couldn't.

If thoughts like this tend to permeate your mind when it comes to Christmas gift wrapping, rest assured that the effort (and torture) are well worth it. Wrapping a gift does several things. First of all, it satisfies a sense of edict. It also creates a surprise factor for the receiver of the gift as they do not really know the contents. Ultimately, though, it shows the receiver that you cared enough to put forth the effort to wrap their gift to begin with.

Waste Not, Want Not

In this day and age it is not uncommon for people to think about the environment. That being said, there are some of us that feel that the use of wrapping paper is a waste of resources. This progressive line of thinking while not the mainstream may find its way into your choice to wrap or not to wrap.

If your feelings on the matter of Christmas gift wrapping are that strong, then there should be no problem as those who know you will respect your ideals. Just be prepared however to receive some weird looks and/or responses to your ideas on the subject.

It is also worth noting that a barely used gift bag or well maintained used wrapping paper can suffice in the presenting of smaller gifts. Just be sure that the bag and/or paper that you are reusing is in good condition. If not you may find that you could be insulting the receiver of your gift instead of making them happy to receive one.

Keep it Simple

If your reasons for avoiding Christmas gift wrapping have more to do with convenience than practicality, then consider gift bags. Simply place your gifts in a decorated bag and it looks nice with minimal work. Gift boxes and bags definitely make Christmas gift wrapping much, much easier.
