Are You Ready for Black Friday?
The Black Friday of The Holiday Shopping Season
So, are you going to be brave this Black Friday and hit the stores or are you going to hide under the covers pretending it's not really happening? One thing's for sure -- you're either a Black Friday fan who waits till the doors open (at an ungodly hour) to begin their Christmas shopping or your a Black Friday hater who will avoid the stores at all costs possible on this crazy shopping day.
What is Black Friday?
What exactly is Black Friday and why is it named such a sinister name? Honestly, the Black Friday name is rather quite innocent. It's the day the holiday shopping really begins and the stores go out of the “red” and into the “black” on their profit and loss statements.
Basically, Black Friday is a day where huge amounts of money are thrown at the stores. Maybe they should have called it Green Friday, but there's no accounting for taste.
Why Do It?
One might wonder why in the world you should wake up at 3 in the morning on the Friday after Thanksgiving to stand in line in the freezing cold at a store that's crowded before they even open. The answer is “great deals”.
I will admit it. I've waited in line to get the $15 DVD player or the $10 14k necklace. I've scoured the Black Friday ads for the best deals and carefully planned my attack. I've even checked store's price match policies to see where I could get the most bang for my buck.
A Changing World
If you really don't like Black Friday and will do anything to avoid the stores, there's some good news. Online stores have caught on to the Black Friday madness and they're getting in on the action. Sure, you'll still have to wake up early but you can do it with a cup of coffee at your PC rather than in line with hundreds of strangers.
However, if you're like me and you actually enjoy the Black Friday madness, it's right around the corner. Let the shopping begin!
